National Association for Small and Medium Enterprise (NASME) has appealed to local manufacturing companies for fair prices of locally products in order to achieve Buy Malawi strategy.

The plea has come amid concerns that despite having locally made high quality products and services, appetite for imported products among Malawians is still high.

Nasme Executive Director William Mwale told Mudziwathu Radio that, locally produced goods are sold at higher prices than those of foreign goods which contribute to many Malawians to purchase the foreign goods.

He further said locally produced Products are not registered with Malawi Bureau Standards which has made the products not recognized by many buyers on local and international markets.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Trade principal secretary Christina Zakeyo   has said Malawians need to change their mindset that locally produced goods are of low quality.

Buy Malawi strategy was launched in 2016 to help promote consumption of locally produced goods and services and induce import substitution.
